You should have been there to listen to the thought of the teens – Skanda, Afroja, Silvia, and Reeti. You would have been shocked at the same time pleasantly surprised with their opinion and perspective on education, tradition, women empowerment, gender, technology, social media, national building, and politics. They were brilliant!
At first when we were approached to consider moderating a teen session, we did twitch. Then we remembered we have a teen daughter and we want to know better how her generation thinks and acts. we wanted to moderate this session to learn.
Listening to them we became more aware of their collective abilities, zeal, and a clear mindset of what they want to do, what they like, dislike, and disdain for what they don’t believe in. Teens make up more than 17% of Nepal’s population. 10% between the age of 15-19 – most will be eligible to vote during 2084 (2027-28) general elections. Leaders/Policy makers better listen to them.
Congratulations team Nari for keeping a session for the future leaders and providing a platform to voice their thoughts, angst, and wishes. I am glad a couple of prep sessions with the girls helped them to be fearless on the stage .
