- ‘Helmets Nepal’, which started with the ‘online delivery’ service of helmets for the last eight years considering the emergency situation, now not only has an annual turnover of Rs 40 million but also advocates for road safety.
Kathmandu: If a scooter or motorcycle is lost or stolen in a busy urban area, then it is a matter of trouble for its drivers. If the helmet of the parked vehicle does not return, then what will be done? There is no practice of carrying a helmet.
In such a situation, new helmets may not be available everywhere to go to buy. Yes, Sajal Joshi of Kathmandu has started delivering helmets online to solve the problem himself.
Helmets Nepal, which first started delivering through an online marketplace in 2016, is now providing physical services from Maitighar and Naxal. Helmets Nepal not only sells helmets but also all the riding gears required for riders. Joshi, co-founder and CEO of Helmets Nepal, said that the company has expanded from online stores to retail stores in Kathmandu. “Initially, i lost my own helmet in the parking lot, went home and brought another helmet and finally got a bike, i couldn’t even buy a helmet in the missing place,” he said. Helmets Nepal was born from there. ’
According to him, two-wheelers usually wear helmets only to avoid traffic police. Joshi said that he lost his life in the accident while wearing a helmet. “It was found that helmets were worn only to avoid traffic, but we did not have to wear quality helmets for our own safety,” he said. He said that along with the quality helmets, riding safety gears have also been sold.
“Helmets Nepal is not only a helmet delivery platform but has also moved towards road safety advocacy,” joshi said. Joshi said that Helmets Nepal, which started by spending Rs 50,000 to solve the problems faced by him, is now doing business of Rs 40 million annually. “When we were in our first year of graduation, we started by spending Rs 50,000 to solve our problems.
Helmets Nepal has also been selling physically by setting up outlets at Maitighar, Teku, Anamnagar and Nagpokhari. Rais Maharjan, General Manager of Helmets Nepal, said that it is now only in Maitighar and Naxal. “At present, there are stores only in Maitighar and Naxal,” he said, adding, “We have opened asia’s largest automotive lifestyle store in Naxal since Last August.” He also said that not only helmets but also all the things needed for riding have been opened as a ‘one-stop solution’. Maharjan said that the stores of Teku, Anamnagar and Nagpokhari have been merged to form a single store in Naxal.
“Not only helmets but all riding gears are available in naxal stores, for the first time we have set up a service station,” he said, adding, “Bikes and scooters have general check-ups to general service. Maharjan said that Helmets Nepal has brought various riding gears in collaboration with different brands of Nepal along with international brands with quality mark. “By tying up with Kavach, we have also brought jackets, pants and jerseys required for the ride,” he said. According to Maharjan, Helmets Nepal has also started producing and selling shoes that can be worn daily with ‘Docha’. “Recently, we have come up with Docha as a ‘yatri’ brand, which will be easier,” he said.
